Leia
December 1995 - May 2, 2006

Dear Leia, Yesterday, we had to make a very difficult decision to help you be free from your painful body. That spinal disease just took away your mobility and we know that it was killing you inside. You lived to play ball - we all have muscles in our arms from throwing the ball for you for hours on end. Your "job" was to worry about your "human kids". You spent your last few months mainly hiding behind the refrigerator in the basement. You couldn't do it anymore. We want you to be energetic, healthy and pain-free again. Your spirit had no bounds and you will protect and worry about your kids from heaven. We sent Bubba with you because his body too was giving out due to old age. We will never forget bringing you home from the shelter. You were just a tiny puppy. You walked in the house, grabbed Bubba's big bone, jumped on the cat and barked when the doorbell rang. We laughed because you were so small but, even then, your spirit was huge! You had a special sense of watching over Ryan, your boy. He loves you very much - we all do. You did a good job with him and we will continue to protect him and hope we do you proud. Leia, please understand that we didn't want you to physically be gone - we just didn't want you suffering anymore. There was nothing else we could do - no surgery, no strong medicine. We would have done it if we could have. We know that when it is our time, we will see you again and will spend hours and hours throwing the ball and your paper to you. Only then you will be able to run and jump after it like you want to. We love you, my beauty girl, and will always, always miss you. You are not replaceable and you will have a permanent place in our hearts and memories. We love you baby girl... Mom, Dad, Ryan and Tyler
